On Hindi Diwas today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah made an appeal to unify India with the country's most widely-spoken language - Hindi. While he said Hindi is the language which has the ability to unify the nation, he also emphasised that India is a country of many languages and each language has its own significance.
September 8 was declared as the International Literacy Day by UNESCO in its 14th General Conference which was held on October 26, 1966.Sanskrit may be the least-spoken language in India but it is far from being done and dusted as latest census figure of 2011 shows the ancient language has earned 10,000 new speakers in a span of 10 years, a growth of 71 per cent.
President Ram Nath Kovind today asked Hindi-speaking people to give more respect and space to regional languages and their speakers in a bid to make Hindi more popular across the country. Movie-goers will be treated to two romantic comedy films this Friday, courtesy Mohit Suri's Half Girlfriend and Saket Chaudhary's Hindi Medium. And there's Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh's Jattu Engineer too
