Parents need to be ‘learning coaches’ for students staying at home this fall, Frisco ISD says

For the 2020-2021 school year, Frisco ISD has given students and their families a choice between face-to-face instruction and online learning. The latter model, a “virtual academy,” would require “parents to be heavily invested in facilitating learning,” according to the school district.
Chief Academic Officer Wes Cunningham said this is because parents set the tone for students when they leave campus. If a student is learning remotely, parents must take on the role of “learning coach” and provide academic support for their children.
That level of support hinges on the student’s grade level and abilities as well as their family dynamics, Cunningham said. Every student has different needs.
