Varsity is roping in company for customised software that will ensure no one cheats, and exam is live-streamed
Even as final year students of Gujarat Technological University (GTU) prepare to appear for their first online examinations, the university has left no stone unturned to ensure a smooth experience for the students. Not only has it extended the examination time by half-an-hour, but the varsity is also making sure that students do not copy paste or seek answers on the internet.
As many as 1,350 students are scheduled to appear for online exams on July 2. To ensure students do not cheat, GTU is roping in an agency that has customised software to also live stream exams and record it simultaneously for all students to get a fair chance.
Sharing details, GTU Registrar K N Kher said the varsity is in the process of roping in a company to conduct the online examinations, but the prerequisite is that the company must have a software that ensures fair online exams. “The exam will be conducted on the lines of GATE. We will conduct pre-checking before the test and students will be able to appear for exams using the same laptop/desktop that is pre-checked. The gadget will be registered with us,” said Kher.
As the gadget will be registered, the software will disable the copy-paste option for students during the exam hours. “Students will not be able to copy-paste, it will also disable browsing the internet or using any other browser during the time of the exam. As an additional measure, the exam will be live-streamed and we will also get the recording of the entire exam process of all 1,350 registered students,” added Kher.
V-C Navin Sheth said they will have one supervisor per 15 students to keep a check on the students and ensure fair exams. Though online examination may be the need of the hour in the time of Covid-19, first timers for online exams like diploma and degree students do not have the experience of it at university level. Keeping challenges and fear of online exams in mind among students, GTU has taken extra care to ensure a smooth exam process.
